Russia has been suspended from the UN Human Rights Council

Russia has been suspended from the UN Human Rights Council. The move comes on the heels of a report by the UN Human Rights Council alleging that Russian forces committed atrocities in Ukraine. 93 countries voted once morest Russia and 24 countries voted in favor. 58 countries abstained. The decision to oust Russia was passed by a two-thirds majority in the 193-member assembly. Suspension from the UN Human Rights Council is rare.

Libya was suspended in 2011 following a series of military crackdowns on protesters once morest Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. This is the third resolution passed by the UN since Russia began its occupation of Ukraine on February 24.
