En Bucaramanga, 27% of the people consulted in the framework of the survey ‘My Voice, My City’ he claimed to have practiced some type of exercise or sport in recent months; in Floridablanca, 25%; in Piedecuesta, 23%; and in Girón, 20%.

And the main reasons why the population shows an alarming physical inactivity or why they take the exercises away are: lack of time (40.5%), fatigue from work (19.3%), laziness (18.4%), health problems (16.1%) and because they have nowhere to practice them (5.7%)

In addition to the sedentary lifestyle that prevails among the people, in general among the residents of the metropolitan area there is a general dissatisfaction with the offer of sports, recreational and leisure activities of the area’s municipalities.

According to the aforementioned opinion poll, prepared by the Programa Metropolitan Bucaramanga How are we doing, “the levels of dissatisfaction in this sense reach the following percentages: in Bucaramanga, 39%; in Floridablanca, 53%; in Piedecuesta, 40%; and in Girón, 48%”.

The statistics came to the fore yesterday during the commemoration of the Day of Physical Activity, a date that sought to make the population aware of the importance of practicing sports regularly and systematically to improve health and acquire good lifestyle habits.

In the Plaza Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento, athletes of all ages met under the following philosophy, which read as follows: ‘Get active, your city needs you healthy’, led by Inderbú and the Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office.

During this event, where passers-by joined the athletes to perform some exercises, it was explained to the attendees that people who do not dare to practice any sport tend to suffer from obesity; and heart disease, including coronary heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure.

In addition, whoever is inactive and does not spend a reasonable amount of time exercising is more likely to have a stroke.
