Just before Easter, when chocolate products are particularly popular, the case of possible salmonella in Ferrero sweets is spreading. After several European countries, Australia has now recalled numerous children’s products. According to the EU authorities, 105 confirmed salmonella cases and 29 suspected cases have been registered so far.
According to the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), there has not yet been a case in Austria. As reported by AGES in response to an APA request, there is still no indication that there are contaminated products or that there are cases of the outbreak strain Salmonella typhimurium. However, relevant surveys are ongoing.

The EU Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the EU Health Authority (ECDC) have also started investigations. Because most of those affected in the EU are children. AGES has listed all affected products on its website.
Recalls in several countries
So far, four confirmed and three suspected cases are known in Germany. Great Britain, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden are also affected. The products concerned were manufactured in Belgium.
Australia has now also started a recall due to possible exposure to salmonella, said the food safety authority FSANZ. The sweets, including Kinder Surprise eggs, were sold in major supermarket chains such as Coles and Woolworths.
In Israel, Ferrero is also recalling several children’s products as a strict precaution. However, the local Ministry of Health announced yesterday that there have been no reports of salmonella contamination.
