COVID-19: more cases, but fewer hospitalizations on the North Shore

The Côte-Nord public health department said on Wednesday that COVID-19 is circulating in the region, in particular in Blanc-Sablon and Pakua Shipi – Saint-Augustin.

In this community, a third of the residences are affected by the virus. The situation is being closely monitored by the authorities.

Across the region, there is a slight increase in active cases, with 630 people testing positive using a PCR test in the past 24 hours.

However, Public Health multiplies this number by five to be closer to reality, which would represent more than 3,000 residents affected.

Still, hospitalizations are down, with the number of occupied beds falling from 59 to 53 in the past 24 hours.

Seven outbreaks are still in effect in various establishments in the Côte-Nord health network, including in the CHSLD de Forestville.

According to the public health department, more than 75% of the population aged 18 and over received their booster dose.

The authorities ask the population to be careful and to reduce contacts for the next few days.

In addition, 151 workers from the regional health network are currently in isolation at home, which represents regarding thirty less than last week. But to compensate for these absences, some departments must deal with 60% of independent labor according to the Union of health workers in Northeastern Quebec.
