In a statement Wednesday, authorities said that “nearly nine seconds following entering, officers faced a man with a pistol pointed in the direction of officers.”
“At one point, shots were fired, and the adult man was hit,” the statement continued, adding that the latter later died of his injuries in hospital.
A so-called “no-knock” warrant
This police raid is linked to an ongoing case in the neighboring town of St-Paul, but which does not involve Amir Locke, according to the Star Tribune who cites anonymously three different sources within several police departments.
The daily also states that police radio communications before the attack suggest that it was carried out with a so-called “no-knock” warrant, which authorizes the police to break down the door without announcing themselves. .
