It was striking that around 13 people outside the Legal Medicine in Cali were waiting to be attended by officials and claim authorization to claim the bodies of their loved ones, in turn, they wanted to know if they were in Palmyra or Bugasince many said “in Cali the freezers are damaged and you have to go claim them elsewhere”.
One of the people affected assured that the funeral service was more expensive because they had to pick up the bodies in another municipalitysomething that they considered should not happen.
Faced with this situation, the director of Legal Medicine in Valle del Cauca, doctor Jairo Silva, explained that it is not that the cold rooms are damaged, what happens is that since the beginning of the year a remodeling is being done because they have not been maintained for many yearsSecond, depending on the need, the bodies must be transferred to Palmira or Buga to guarantee conservation while the families claim them.
“The equipment had not been repaired for several years and at this moment they are in that complete repair, we are in that process and We believe that they are going to be as good as new, we have implemented a contingency, we have a transport vehicle for corpses in which every morning and every followingnoon we leave bodies in Palmira or Buga, depending on the volume and to the same extent we bring them for delivery to the families, we do that every day and every weekend”.
The director of Legal Medicine added that they as an entity are the ones that transport the bodies between the headquarters, that does not correspond to the relatives, however, many people prefer to do the retreat in person at the Palmira headquarters, since they are in a hurry to close the cycle they are going through.
It is expected that next month the dynamic will return to normal at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Cali, when the renovation of the cold rooms in its structure, floors, machines and pipes is completed.
