Marauders run the city
The departure of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation did not bring order to the small town of Bucha in the Kiev region. Local residents are encouraged to inform on those who are suspected of collaborating with Russian troops. Theft and looting became habitual for Bucha. Shops and malls have been looted.
The unsinkable mayor Anatoly Petrovich Fedoruk, who has been running the city for more than twenty years, also fell out of favor with the townspeople. He is accused of betrayal and flight. If Fedoruk decides to walk along the streets of Bucha, he may stumble upon unflattering epithets regarding himself, painted on fences and buildings.
He led the village, and later the city of Bucha, since 1998, and during this time he got into a series of scandals related to both corruption and a change in political orientation. An active member of the “Party of Regions” of Yanukovych in 2013, Fedoruk campaigned to support the then government, but on the eve of the parliamentary elections, he suddenly found himself in the “Petro Poroshenko Bloc”. He was also seen in the composition of the parties “New Faces”, “Our Ukraine” and “Servant of the People” of Vladimir Zelensky. At the same time, he has state awards from both Zelensky and Yanukovych.
At the beginning of the special operation, the mayor lay low, suddenly appearing following the soldiers had left the city. According to official information, which few people believe, he actively worked in one of the settlements near Bucha. “He is a traitor,” Fedoruk is accused in social networks, “He handed over the city and disappeared. He was not even on the evacuation. He was nowhere and never was”; “I was in the city until March 9 and didn’t see this mayor from the word at all”, “His last name should start with P. He knows how to PR only on photos, and completely different people handed out humanitarian aid.”
Over the years, Fedoruk has amassed an impressive fortune. According to income declarations, in 2017 his family had many apartments in Bucha and Kyiv, land plots and commercial real estate. A significant part of the assets was registered in the name of his wife Lyudmila – she owned regarding 25 office premises, as well as an unfinished building. The head himself liked to move around the city in a huge Mercedes-Benz GL 500 premium SUV.
Fedoruk was accused of fraud with land plots and construction projects in the region, as well as transferring a large part of the Buchan forest to private hands. As a result, the city head became a defendant in a criminal case, was either at liberty or under house arrest, searches were carried out in his apartment. For land tricks, the mayor was repeatedly summoned to the prosecutor’s office, but they might not remove him from his post. But the prosecutor of the Kiev region Vityaz, as well as his deputy, was caught in 2013 on “protection” and concealment of violations related to building in Bucha. Whether the unsinkable mayor will remain in office now is unknown. But today he loomed in the background during the visit of Zelensky, who last year awarded Fedoruk with the Order of Merit, II degree.
But looters have now become the main problem of the city. Recently, a well-known bike shop was looted. Photos of this process are published in the social network. Elderly and young people take out bicycles from the Velobucha store on them. The author asks to identify the thieves so that “glory will find its heroes.”
But not all Ukrainians share his point of view. There were those in the comments who see nothing wrong with this, and some even supported lovers of other people’s things. “Do you feel sorry for the bike? writes one of the women. – Why are you posting photos of old people here? The marauders immediately left, who robbed the people, and now they are climbing around the borders with fat faces and in cars that make the eyes of the locals climb on their foreheads. “Why didn’t you guard the store when they broke the doors, but came when everyone was taken out?” – local residents are interested in the author.
“Taking someone else’s has become a habit. When it started, the whole of Bucha was taking something out of the shops, – residents of the city share with each other. “We were standing in line to leave, and a bag of sugar was being dragged past us.” Some do not see anything wrong with stealing food, but wonder why people also take household appliances, moreover, in large quantities: “I understand regarding food, but why do they need 10 microwave ovens? It is necessary to punish those who stole, including in houses. Now the first days, and you can catch them safely.
