Swedish music stars play for Ukraine

In the course of a solidarity concert for Ukraine, donations totaling the equivalent of more than seven million euros were collected in Sweden. A total of 75.8 million Swedish kronor (7.3 million euros) have been donated under the motto “Hela Sverige skramlar för Ukraina” (All of Sweden collects money for Ukraine), as the organizers announced on Monday. That makes the sum one of the largest ever collected in Sweden.

At the live televised concert at the Avicii Arena in Stockholm Some of Sweden’s best-known musicians performed on Saturday night. Abba member Björn Ulvaeus gave an emotional speech at the beginning of the event, Per Gessle played the Roxette classic “Listen to your heart”, and also the opera singer Malena Ernman – the mother of climate activist Greta Thunberg – stood on stage in front of around 6,000 spectators.
