The Polish won 6-4 6-0 ahead of the Japanese Naomi Osaka (WTA 77) in the final of the WTA 1000 Florida tournament. Iga Swiatek, who will succeed the young retiree Ashleigh Barty at the top of the hierarchy today, is simply the fourth player to succeed in the “Sunshine Double” Indian Wells / Miami. The 20-year-old Polish imitates Steffi Graf (1994 and 1996), Kim Clijsters (2005) and Victoria Azarenka (2016).
Among men, Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 16) became at 18 the youngest winner of the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami. The Spaniard beat the Norwegian Casper Ruud (ATP 8) in straight sets, 7-5 6-4 in the final.
