Sri Lanka cabinet members resign amid economic crisis and protests

Sri Lankan Education Minister announced the resignation of members Government All, during a meeting held late on Sunday night, with an escalation protests Anti-government despite the imposition of a curfew.

Minister Dinesh Gonawardina told reporters that all 26 ministers, except for the president, Gotabaya Rajapaksaand his brother, the Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, have resigned from their posts.

“All the ministers submitted letters of resignation so that the president can form a new government,” Gunawardena said, adding that the decision was made following discussing the deepening economic crisis, and among the resigning were three other members of the powerful Rajapaksa family.

The move came amid mounting public anger over acute shortages of food, fuel and medicine in the South Asian nation of 22 million people.
