Profile of Chef Budiono, British MasterChef Participant who Becomes a Judge for MasterChef Indonesia

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.comChef Budi or Budiono bin Sukim as one of the judges on the latest episode of MasterChef Indonesia, Sunday (3/4/2022).

Chef Budiono had appeared in English MasterChef in 2021. She was selected from over 1,000 cooks in “Queen Elizabeth’s Land” who wanted to show off her skills on TV’s leading cooking show BBC.

When asked by one Michelin-star chef, Marcus Warering, one of the judges in the cooking contest that was broadcast on Thursday night (11/11/2021) in London, Chef Budiono answered that the reason for wanting to appear was to promote Indonesian cuisine.

Chef Budi was born in Pemalang, Central Java. Quoted from BBC Indonesia he told me that when he was little he used to help his grandfather sell goat curry. That moment made him interested in pursuing a career as a cook.

“When I was in SMEA, in the morning I sold brains using bicycles for school fees in Jakarta, and in the evening I taught lessons for three elementary school children,” he said.

His journey as an international chef began to develop when he was transferred from the Four Seasons hotel in Jakarta to the Four Seasons in London in 2004.

He moved to Dubai for a year in 2015 and returned to London where he worked at the Marriott and Savoy Hotel.

Latest info from BBC Indonesia last year, Chef Budiono was working as a chef at Fortnum and Mason, a shop equipped with restaurants and one of the food suppliers for the British royal family.

For regarding 15 years Chef Budi worked in a number of star hotels in London, the capital of England.

BBC INDONESIA Budiono and other contestants are fighting for a place in the quarter-finals.

A total of 32 cooks – screened from more than 1,000 who applied – must demonstrate their skills and pass through five stages before being able to appear on this event.
