Hauts-de-France / Covid-19: a second vaccination booster open to over 80s and fragile people

The Covid-19 virus continues to circulate, with very high incidence rates. On March 31, there were thus 1,528 cases / 100,000 inhabitants in Hauts-de-France.
To maintain effective protection once morest serious forms, health authorities have been recommending a second booster vaccination for the most fragile since March 14.
“The effectiveness of vaccines does indeed decrease slightly over time, especially in the most fragile, as long as the body is not stimulated by the encounter with the virus.” .
For the regional health agency Hauts-de-France”A new vaccination brings this stimulation and allows the reinforcement of the immune defences”.
This new vaccination complements the initial vaccination (1 to 3 injections depending on the situation), and the booster campaign, often referred to as the “3rd dose” (1 to 2 injections depending on the situation).

– people aged 80 and over;
– immunocompromised people, because they have certain pathologies or because they have taken certain treatments

– residents of nursing homes, regardless of their age.

When to give the booster dose?

The second booster dose is offered to the most fragile from 3 months following the injection of the first booster.
People who have contracted Covid-19 more than 3 months following the first booster do not need to perform this new injection to maintain optimal protection.
The second booster remains recommended for those who contracted Covid-19 less than 3 months following their first booster. This new injection must take place from 3 months following the infection.
Booster vaccination can be performed with Pfizer and Moderna (half-dose) vaccines, regardless of the vaccine used previously.”

Where to get vaccinated?

Vaccination for nursing home residents is offered within the establishment.
Outside establishments for the elderly, people who want to be vaccinated must contact health professionals: pharmacists, doctors, nurses, midwives.
