A goal in extra time from No 71 qualified Freiburg for the last four of the play-offs. The Dragons are waiting to know their opponent, the Lausanne HC season is over.
Fribourg-Gottéron qualified for the semi-finals of the play-offs for the first time since 2014. On their ice rink on Saturday, the Dragons beat Lausanne HC 5-4 following extra time. The winning goal was scored by Killian Mottet in the 79th minute. The Fribourgeois will however still have to wait before knowing their next opponent. Only certainty, the Dragons will avoid EV Zug, first at the end of the regular season. Christian Dubé’s team will face the ZSC Lions (3rd in the regular season) if the Zurich players win the seventh round once morest HC Bienne (6th) on Monday.
A fifth act with twists and turns
For the first time in the series, Lausanne HC scored on the power play! And rather twice than once. After breaking their teeth and at times even being ridiculed in this exercise (two goals conceded in the series), the Lions finally managed to score during their… 18th power-play streak in the series thanks to defender Martin Gernat ( 24th, 2-2). The 19th superiority opportunity was also victorious. This time, it was Lukas Frick who found the fault five once morest four by taking advantage of a good screen from Tim Bozon (44th, 3-4).
The Fribourgeois, for their part, started their match in the same way as every other duel in the series: by scoring their first goal of the evening on their first numerical superiority sequence. A great classic. Julien Sprunger, with a subtle deviation, allowed the Dragons to take the lead following 15 minutes of play (1-0).
Killian Mottet, this hero
The fifth act really took off in the second period with a brace from Dragon Chris DiDomenico, each time five once morest four, and a brace from the Slovak Martin Gernat in the ranks of the LHC.
In advance of a goal from the 44th minute (Frick, author of two goals also), the LHC conceded a new equalizer only a few minutes later. How did the Dragons go regarding scoring? In power-play, of course! Killian Mottet pierced the Vaudois nets from his favorite position (47th, 4-4). For Gottéron, it was his fourth goal of the evening in numerical superiority!
Like last Tuesday (3rd act won by FR Gottéron following 105 minutes of play), the two teams were separated in added time. Killian Mottet, served by David Desharnais following an unlikely defensive error by LHC captain Lukas Frick, scored the golden goal for Gottéron following 19 minutes in added time (79th).
