Former head of BioWare explains why The Witcher 3 is better than Dragon Age: Inquisition | Games

Former BioWare General Manager Arin Flynn Reveals the Challenges the Studio Faced in Development Dragon Age: Inquisition. He discussed this and other topics in an interview with USA Today.

According to Flynn, the main problem was in the engine – the developers had to work on Frostbite, which was not suitable for creating the mechanics needed for an RPG. Due to the large number of technical limitations, programmers had to look for new ways to eliminate errors. Flynn said that he still regrets that at one time he might not explain to the studio management the scale of the problems that arose due to the engine.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was simultaneously developed for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, as well as the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. At the same time, the title team was relatively small. The lack of technical and human resources when creating several versions of the game was one of the reasons for the final quality of the RPG. As Flynn points out, The Wither 3: Wild Hunt turned out much better because she managed to avoid such problems – CD Projekt RED began work on other versions of the game following the release.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was released in 2014 on PC, PlayStation 3 and 4, as well as Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The title has an average Metacritic score of 85 out of 100 from critics and 6 out of 10 from users.

The Witcher 3 was released in 2015 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In 2019, the game became available on the Nintendo Switch, and later the developers announced the creation of a next-gen version of the title for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
