“A new car? Not before summer 2024”: more than two years of waiting for a new car!

After the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to a shortage of electronic chips, it was the turn of the war in Ukraine to add delays in the production of new cars. With the consequence of delays which sometimes lengthen in a dizzying way!

You have surely not missed this info: it is in Ukraine that we find several major suppliers of wiring harnesses for the automotive sector. With the invasion of the country by Russia and the ongoing war, some of these Ukrainian factories had to close, causing a chain reaction. At the beginning of March, short of electronic cables, car factories in Germany, but also in the Czech Republic for example, had to stop their activities for several days, sometimes even several weeks. The Volkswagen group in particular was severely affected with the temporary cessation of production of several models: VW Golf, VW Tiguan, Audi Q4 e-tron, Skoda Octavia, etc. “Today the factories have resumed production but we don’t know for how long”, explains Joke Boon, press officer at VW Belgium. She adds : “It is therefore very complicated to give precise delivery times because in practice they change from day to day. At the time I am speaking to you, the VW ID.3 is no longer available with the small battery. But maybe tomorrow it will be true once more. What is true today may not be true tomorrow.”
