The engineer who installed USB-C on the iPhone now has another Android phone with Lightning

Ken Pillonel

Engineer Ken Pillonel successfully remodeled the world’s first machine last yeariPhone with USB-C portand now in order to “balance the chaos (caused by such things)”, he deliberately chose April Fool’s Day to disclose his new achievement, which is aAndroid phone with Lightning port. Like the previous modification, the Samsung Galaxy A51 that received the modification this time can also charge and transmit data normally following completion.

“It’s a complex makeover, and it requires some divergent thinking,” Pillonel tells us. “The Lightning cables Apple sells aren’t ‘dumb,’ they only recognize Apple devices, so I had to find a way to fool them. One of them is plugged into an Apple device. And the whole set of retrofit components needs to be put into the phone, which in itself is quite a challenge.”

Fortunately, the last successful retrofit gave Pillonel a lot of experience. “I think it’s going to be a little easier to do than the first USB-C iPhone for two reasons,” he said. The better you are at it, the faster you can complete the transformation. The second reason is that the quality of the modified things this time is far inferior to the previous iPhone transformation.”

Pillonel’s reason for saying this is easy to understand. After all, Lightning is not as easy to use as USB-C, and few people will follow suit. “I don’t think any normal person would want to change their device like this,” Pillonel said. “It’s just for fun, I just want to see if I can do it myself.” Of course, for interested DIYers , and Pillonel has promised to upload a full explanatory video on its YouTube channel in the future.

After making the USB-C iPhone, Pillonel put it up for online auctions, but he ended up encountering false bids, so this Lightning modification will probably be reserved for his own use. “I didn’t think I had to try and sell things, because that wasn’t really my idea, I wanted to focus on engineering, science,” Pillonel said.
