The start of Ramadan is this Saturday in Belgium

The fast of the month of Ramadan will begin this year on Saturday April 2, 2022, indicates the Executive of the Muslims of Belgium (EMB) Friday evening in a press release. The date was set following a meeting of the Council of Theologians which took place on Friday.

The EMB addresses on this occasion “best wishes“to all the Muslim population of Belgium and wishes”May this blessed month be part of wisdom, patience and solidarity following two years marked by the Covid19 pandemic, in the face of which vigilance remains in order.

The EMB also invites Muslims to enjoy this month”to increase prayers for the sick, the deceased and all families bereaved by the loss of one or more loved ones.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Arabic lunar calendar, the first day of which is determined locally by the appearance of the new moon. It is considered the month in which the Quran was revealed to Muhammad. It is a period of prayer and, for those who are not exempted because of their physical condition, of fasting, which constitutes one of the five pillars of Islam. It ends with the celebration of Eid Al Fitr.
