Hwang Dae-heon (Gangwon Provincial Government), the ace of the men’s short track team, will not participate in the 2021-22 season International Skating Union (ISU) World Championships due to COVID-19.
An official from the Korea Skating Federation said on the 1st, “Hwang Dae-heon tested positive for COVID-19 to participate in the World Championships and is in quarantine.
It is reported that he immediately left the Jincheon Athletes’ Village and went into self-quarantine.
With Hwang Dae-heon missing, the men’s national team will participate in the individual world championships with Jun-seo Lee (Korea National University of Sports), Jang-hyeok Park (Sports Toto), and Yoon-ki Kwak (Goyang City Hall), while Dong-wook Kim (Sports Toto) and In-wook Park (Daejeon Athletic Association) will participate as team members.
Lee Yoo-bin (Yonsei University) withdrew from the women’s national team due to health problems. With this, Park Ji-yoon (Uijeongbu City Hall), who placed 7th in the national team selection this season, will be rejoining the national team.
The World Championships are held at the end of each season and boast the second largest scale following the Olympics, and are one of the events that many athletes look forward to.
The national team will depart for Montreal, Canada, where the World Championships will be held on the 3rd. The World Championships will be held from the 8th to the 10th.
