Apple joins other giants such as Microsoft, Amazon or even Netflix.
Each year, Time Magazine publishes a whole series of rankings concerning personalities or companies. The most influential personalities or companies of the year or the personality of the year, Time rewards every year those who have marked the last twelve months, whether through concrete actions, gestures in favor of the climate or social or technological innovations.
On March 30, the American magazine published its ranking of the 100 most influential companies of 2022. And for the very first time, Apple was listed as a “Titan” company. The second most important category, following the “Pioneers”. Other giants are included in the Titans, such as Meta, Microsoft or Disney, but also Pfizer and the NFL.
Apple’s work for privacy
The reason that allowed Apple to be ranked Titan this year has to do with its efforts to respect the privacy of its users. “Last year, Apple and its CEO, Tim Cook, took the momentous step of allowing users to block companies from tracking their app usage, a technique used for targeting (App Tracking Transparency, Ed.)“, specifies the Time.
“Apple has touted this change as a victory for user privacy – and users seem to agree, since most of them have chosen not to. Many anti-surveillance activists have welcomed this development […].”
On the other hand, Time points out that this feature of Apple has harmed other industry giants, such as Meta and Snap, and that it would have cost them 10 billion dollars.
Last year, Apple was included in the category of “Leaders” companies, a notch below Titan. Time then widely highlighted the record growth and record quarterly results of Apple in the midst of the covid pandemic.
