The teams of the Czech studio FiolaSoft surprise us today with MATCHO, a narrative FPS intelligently combined with match-3 style. An astonishing mix at first glance, but which has every chance of being one of the great discoveries of this year.
A clever mix of frenetic action and strategy
It is through a three-minute announcement trailer that the FiolaSoft teams presented their latest project planned for this year. MATCHO is a narrative FPS centered on Max, a reluctant 25-year-old hero with superpowers that threaten humans. He must therefore free himself from it with a team of scientists, but their leader is kidnapped and Max must therefore go to his rescue.
So much for the triggers of the adventure of the young Max who should above all offer us a gameplay still rarely seen. MATCHO will therefore be a narrative FPS mixed with the style of tile-matching match-3. That is to say, you will have to gather your enemies (robotic creatures) in groups of at least three to reduce them to ashes. This mechanic will give rise to increasingly important and technical combos over the course of your adventure. Thus, your thinking and strategic skills will be put to the test in the heart of frenetic combat.
According to the first elements presented in video, the game seems quite beautiful with a rather cartoony artistic direction well assumed. Max’s abilities should be numerous and parkour phases will also be present. MATCHO is due out this year on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.
