Luxury car manufacturer Rolls-Royce intends by 2030, completely switch to electric traction, but the first-born of the brand should open the era of electric vehicles only by the end of 2023, but for now the debut Specter model is being tested. The car was tested in the conditions of the Swedish Arctic, according to the company, and in total the prototype overcame a quarter of the planned 2.5 million km of test run.
According to information Electrek, the testing phase in northern Sweden, just 55 km from the Arctic Circle, meant not only the operation of an electric vehicle in the temperature range from minus 26 to minus 40 degrees Celsius, but also an extensive program of sea trials on the ice of a frozen lake. Engineers were able to collect data to improve the car’s handling on slippery surfaces.
At the moment, regarding a quarter of the 2.5 million kilometers that the car will have to go through until the end of development tests have been overcome. The manufacturer aims to simulate the operation of an electric vehicle for 400 years in this way. It turns out that in a year the Rolls-Royce Specter should pass an average of 6250 km. In fact, for a “front” vehicle, this is a completely familiar mileage.
The first-born of the Rolls-Royce electric vehicle line will have advanced functionality and provide a constant connection to the global network. The implementation of regarding 1000 main functions and regarding 25 thousand auxiliary ones is planned for the model. From its predecessors, the Specter will inherit the aluminum body frame, but it will be improved to accommodate the components of the electric propulsion system. Deliveries of new items to customers should begin in the fourth quarter of next year.
