Just a few hours ago, the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, referred to the controversy generated in recent days as a result of the concept “Wallmapu” that he used to refer to the Mapuche territory during an official guideline.
The fact provoked reactions from authorities and members of the Argentine diplomacy, among them the former Minister of Security of Chubut, Federico Massoniwho argued that:We demand that our national government be firm in its positioning and make it clear to Chileans that there is no Wallmapu, there is the province of Chubut.”.
For this reason, the authority clarified that “I have no intention of interfering in the territory of our trans-Andean brothers. I want to be very clear, the term It is focused on our national territory”.
“And it’s not to polarize our countrybut rather look for those meeting points, speak to our native peoples with great respect”, he emphasized.
Similarly, the chief of staff apologized to those who might be affected by her words. “If I have caused discomfort at the national or trans-Andean level, I ask for all the corresponding excuses, it has never been in my interest”.
Later, he maintained that “I also discussed it with our chancellor and I hope that this does not continue to be deepened or used for purposes that are not national.”
“We have made the call as a government, noOur idea is to be able to reunite with our original peoples and, particularly, the State of Chile together with the Mapuche people to work together to be able to heal the wounds”, Izkia concluded.
