This March 31, the inauguration of “Faces” was held, the unpublished exhibition that reviews the covers of the best magazines in the world, between 1920 and 2020, and which will be presented at the Vertical Hall of the San Martín Cultural Center (Sarmiento 1551, CABA), until May 14 (Thursday to Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) with free admission.
The photographer Gabriel Roccaand the deputy director of Caras magazine, Hector Maugeri, curated the archive of Juan Cantafio, the largest private collector of magazine covers: made up of more than 400,000 copies. and selected a hundred caps of original magazines plus a selection of 550 digital coversespecially representative and iconic due to the treatment of faces, among which is included NOTICIAS.
The sample includes current, humorous, children’s, sports, comics and shows magazines, among more than 50 journalistic genres. “In Faces you can see the evolution in the way of transmitting a message and capturing the reader’s attention with the image of a face in the media, depending on the time and place. Each cover of Faces challenges you, you see yourself identified, something happens in you when you look at those faces”, commented Juan Cantafio.
“The proposal is to go through it as a journey that takes us to all kinds of facial expressions, with a multiplicity of gestures and meanings to observe and observe ourselves, as if we were looking in a mirror. Each of these characters and people have something to show us and tell us, sometimes in an obvious way and others in more suggestive or encrypted ways”, added the collector.
