Shueisha, a Japanese publishing house known for its best-selling weekly manga magazine “Shounen JUMP” and many popular manga works, announced today (3/31) that it has established its own game production and distribution subsidiary “Shueisha Games” on February 16. 2 large game development projects.

“Shueisha Games” has Shueisha President Shinichi Hirono as the company’s representative, and Yamamoto Masami, former head of the external development department of Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio, serves as the executive officer to oversee game production. The main business will be the planning, development and sales of digital games for console/PC/smartphone and analog games. The two current business directions are “discovering talented independent game creators” and “creating new large-scale works”.

In the “Discovering Talented Independent Game Creators” section, the operation of Shueisha Games will further strengthen the “Shueisha Game Creators Camp” previously held by Shueisha to open up new businesses. Experience of newcomers to support talented game creators. In addition, it will support the cooperation of various types of creators related to game development, such as cartoonists, novelists, video creators, illustrators, and music creators, to help them create new games with rich originality. More than 4,000 people have signed up for the “Shueisha Game Creators Camp”, which will be celebrating its first anniversary on April 20, and more than 10 supported works including unpublished works have been submitted.

In the “Creating New Large-Scale Works” section, Shueisha Games plans to launch new game projects in the form of co-development with major game companies. Using the value creation and development funds of Shueisha’s popular writer talent and editorial experience, several large-scale projects are underway.

There are two projects announced so far. The first is a display game for smartphones. It is designed by a well-known writer of Weekly Shonen Jump as a character. It adopts a completely original story and is developed by a powerful studio of a large foreign game company. Focusing on the Asian market including Japan, we aim to expand globally. The second is a new type of multiplayer battle game developed in cooperation with a large Japanese company and developed by a large Japanese developer. The production platform has not yet been determined.
