While the Jura police were carrying out a check, an accident occurred in a traffic jam on the Transjurane.
Corks, slowdowns, it’s commonplace on the Transjurane at the exit of the factories. The Jura police do not designate them, but the cross-border commuters go home, which is quite normal… Problem on the A16: the tunnels are single-lane, like that of Mont-Russelin, in Glovelier.
“Some motorists are trying to save time by overtaking the columns of vehicles stopped on the highway by using the hard shoulder,” reports Warrant Officer Stéphane Mollard, “rescue police” manager of section II of the gendarmerie. Jura For the police, “this way of driving is dangerous and therefore prohibited”.
Rush hours
Last Tuesday, at the end of the followingnoon, the Jura cantonal police carried out an action to identify the drivers in violation on the motorway, at the junction of Glovelier / Boécourt, lane France. Objective: to penalize overtaking made via the hard shoulder at peak times.
A total of 25 motorists were arrested and fined. The Jura cantonal police point out that these risky behaviors are vectors of traffic accidents. “It was at this time and under the eyes of the police that a traffic accident occurred,” reports the cantonal police.
In detail: a motorist who was making an overtaking maneuver on the right, using the hard shoulder, struck another vehicle in front of him when the latter was entering the exit lane correctly. This accident caused no injuries, but the driver at fault will be the subject of a denunciation.
Parallel queues
The Jura cantonal police remind you that it is forbidden to overtake on the right, except in the case of traffic in
parallel lines, on the sections with a single lane used for preselection, on the entry acceleration and exit deceleration lanes.
“Emergency lanes can therefore only be used in case of absolute necessity”, insists Warrant Officer Stéphane Mollard. In addition, it is strictly forbidden to cross a safety line, a double safety line or a hatched surface.
