This Thursday, a moderate to major solar storm is expected, which has risks of impact on the Earth, according to an assessment by NASA.
Several eruptions might hit the Earth at once, possibly causing low-frequency telecommunications systems to break down and satellites to fail. If the predictions turn out to be true, events will be felt intermittently.
Additionally, aurora borealis would be visible as far away as New York on a clear day. There are chances that alarms will go off, but they will be false alarms. The satellite navigation system and low frequency radio will also be affected.
In February of this year, 40 of SpaceX’s 49 small satellites were destroyed during one of these solar storms causing system failures.
