Disapproval of the government of Iván Duque remains at 73%

President Iván Duque cracked once more in the most recent Invamer survey. Despite the fact that he remained at 73% disapproval -compared to the survey carried out in February-, his government continues to be mostly criticized by Colombians consulted in the survey carried out in the main cities of the country.

To the question “do you approve or disapprove of the way in which ‘Iván Duque’ is carrying out his work as President of Colombia?” 23% of the consulted population affirmed that they approve. However, 73% indicated their disapproval, out of a sample of 1,200 people distributed in Bogotá (400), Medellín (200), Cali (200), Barranquilla (200) and Bucaramanga (200).

Duque has remained in a disapproval range of over 70% since April 2021, the month in which the national strike began, which was motivated by, among other reasons, the tax reform proposed by the government. However, although the fiscal adjustment proposed by his administration was the trigger, more extensive demonstrations were triggered by the excessive police action and the demands for fundamental rights made by different sectors of the citizenry.

Despite this, It is not the first time that Duque has reached such a percentage. In fact, since May 2019, when he had not yet completed a year in the Casa de Nariño, disapproval of his government began to rise, reaching 71% disapproval in February 2020, just before the pandemic began.

After the arrival of the coronavirus, the figures changed considerably, to the point of reaching a approval of 52% in April of the same year, the highest of his entire presidential term. However, the management of the emergency from the Ministry of Health was not enough for Colombians to remain optimistic regarding the government.

more disapproval

Almost all of the Colombians surveyed affirmed that insecurity continues to grow in the country: 96% of people the highest figure since Álvaro Uribe’s second term they considered that security has worsened in Colombia and only 3% believe that it has improved.

Likewise, regarding the economy, 89% of those surveyed think that it is getting worse, as well as unemployment, on which only 11% of people consider that it has improved.

On corruption, 93% of Colombians consulted believe that it has worseneda percentage that contrasts considerably with the 77% of August 2018, when Duque became president of Colombia.
