Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi declared that the Ukraine crisis “was an explosion of the accumulated security problems in Europe.” “The Ukrainian issue has difficult historical origins and causes,” Wang Yi said during his meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in the Chinese city of Tunis, on Wednesday.

Wang Yi also called on behalf of his government to draw lessons from the Ukrainian crisis and establish a security mechanism in Europe.

In the long term, it is necessary to draw lessons from the crisis in Ukraine, build principles of mutual respect and indivisibility of security, take into account the concerns of all parties in this field, and through dialogue and negotiations, create a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture, thus achieving order and long-term stability in Europe”.

The minister stressed that his country “supports the efforts made by Russia and other countries to prevent a large-scale humanitarian crisis” in Ukraine.

He pointed out that his country supports the Russian and Ukrainian efforts aimed at continuing negotiations. The Chinese minister stressed that China and Russia intend to develop cooperation between the two countries in all fields, adding: “The desire of both sides to develop bilateral relations has become stronger, and confidence in developing cooperation in all fields has become stronger.”
