Rock was on stage at the Dolby Theater in The Angels to present the award for Best Documentary when he made a comment regarding Pinkett Smith’s appearance.

“Jada, I love you. ‘GI Jane 2,’ I can’t wait to see you,” she joked, referring to Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.

GI Jane is a 1997 American drama film starring Demi Moorea fictional story regarding the first woman to receive special operations training, similar to the Navy Seals of EE.UU. Moore, who won a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress for her performance, shaved her head For the movie.

Pinkett Smith, who announced last year that she had shaved her head following struggling with alopecia, was seen in the audience along with her husband. She rolled her eyes at Rock’s comment.

After the joke, Smith stood up and proceeded to walk onto the stage, prompting the comedian to utter an “uh oh”

Smith then slapped Rock across the face with an open hand.

“Wow! Wow. Will Smith just beat the crap out of me,” Rock said, looking quite surprised at the time, as a furious-looking Smith stormed off the stage.

Smith was then heard yelling, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth,” to which Rock replied, “Wow… dude. It was a ‘GI Jane’ joke.”

“Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth,” Smith yelled once more.

“I’m going to do it, okay?” Rock replied, before looking back at the camera. “This was the biggest night in the history of television”, he commented, before going on to present the award for Best Documentary to Questlove for Summer of Soul.

The Independent contacted Smith’s representative for comment.

Shortly following the incident, Will Smith appeared to joke regarding it on his official Instagram profile, where he wrote: “You can’t invite people from Philadelphia O Baltimore to nowhere!”.

Smith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, while his wife is from Baltimore, Maryland.
