A family narrowly escaped in the Petite-Bourgogne neighborhood in southwestern Montreal when gunfire shattered the windows of their apartment on Friday.
In addition to damaging the patio door, bullets hit the TV inside and shattered the windows of their parked vehicle nearby.
The family and their four children are traumatized.
A total of three bullets were fired near the intersection of Dominion and Quesnel streets.
This is not the first incident in this neighborhood. In July 2021, a young man was shot and killed in the area.
Hours later, dozens of shots were fired in another event on Quesnel Street.
“These are events that displease us a lot. We are often on patrol in the area, it is part of our work area, ”explained Frénel Buissereth of the Prévention Sud-Ouest organization.
“The population is shaken in these times, they ask themselves questions, but I hope they will see that it is an unfortunate event,” added Michael Farkas of the same organization.
The suspects are still at large.
The Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, ensures that everything is done by the SPVM to shed light on the events.
“It is extremely disturbing. We are talking regarding a family that is in shock, and with good reason. We don’t expect that. All my thoughts are with the family, who are going through very difficult times,” she said during a press scrum.
She recalls that her administration is organizing a Forum for the fight once morest armed violence with this in mind.
“There is a lot of work being done to think regarding new avenues to ensure safety in our neighborhoods,” she assured.
