Ukraine announces new talks with Russia

Except for humanitarian corridors for evacuation, all previous negotiations between Ukraine and Russia have yielded nothing. Both sides are now agreeing on a new attempt, which is scheduled for several days.

According to the Ukrainian government, Russia and Ukraine will start a new round of negotiations on Monday in Turkey. “During today’s video conference talks, it was decided to hold the next round in person in Turkey on March 28-30,” Ukrainian negotiator David Arachamia said on Facebook. The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, confirmed the meeting on Telegram.

Shortly following the Russian war of aggression once morest Ukraine began on February 24, delegations from both countries began negotiations. After three face-to-face meetings in the border area of Belarus, the talks were held in video conferences.

Negotiations at ministerial level in Antalya, Turkey, had already taken place on March 10, but had not brought any concrete progress towards a ceasefire in Ukraine. In the negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian sides regarding a possible end to the Russian military operation in the neighboring country, there was only an agreement to reach humanitarian corridors in order to be able to bring civilians from the war zone to safety.

During the talks, Ukraine called for a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Russian forces from the country and the designation of countries that would guarantee Ukraine’s security and intervene in the event of a Russian attack. Moscow says it wants to demilitarize and “denazify” Ukraine, speaking of a neutral status for its pro-Western neighbor.
