A 26-year-old man died this Sunday in the early hours of the morning when the car in which he was driving with a companion overturned. Two older men were aboard a champagne-colored Peugeot 306. For reasons that are still unknown, the driver lost control and the vehicle rushed towards the shoulder, where he stumbled several times. Witnesses passing through the area notified the Police regarding a damaged vehicle and minutes later police officers, as well as Volunteer Firefighters, went to the scene, who confirmed that one of the occupants of the car had dead in the place, product of the violent impact.
Senior Commissioner Roberto Bello, director of Traffic for the Neuquén Police, reported that the dead man “is a 26-year-old from the town of Plaza Huincul.” His name, as officially confirmed, was Jorge Tomas Sánchez Castillo.
Regarding the accident, Bello reported that “it took place at kilometer 80 of Provincial Route 17, at the exit of Plaza Huincul, in the direction of Añelo. The car, in which two people were traveling, was heading from south to north The driver loses control on the first curve at the exit of the city. For unknown reasons, he enters the east lane, narrowing the curve. As a result, he loses control of the vehicle and heads towards the west shoulder, to the side of his lane, but he leaves the road, skids regarding 20 meters and stumbles twice. As a result of this, the driver loses his life immediately.”
Regarding the companion, the chief commissioner assured that he suffered minor injuries, but that he required immediate medical assistance, for which he was transferred to the Cutral Co hospital, where he remains hospitalized.
“Firefighters, Traffic personnel, security personnel and doctors from the local hospital worked,” reported the director of Neuquén Police Transit.
