Sharjah 24 – Asaad Khalil:
Christian Eriksen did not hide his happiness following scoring a goal in his first appearance for a long time with the Danish national team, despite his country losing to the Netherlands 2-4 in the international friendly match that brought them together.
Eriksen confirmed that he “felt like he was a footballer once more”.
Just two minutes following his participation as a substitute once morest the Netherlands, Eriksen scored the second goal for the Danish team, in his first appearance in 287 days.
Eriksen might have scored a second goal, but his shot hit the outer structure of the goal.
“I felt like a footballer once more,” Eriksen told Dutch network NOS. “I have been absent from the international scene for a long time.”
“I am very happy to be back, and also to score, it gives me a great feeling, I was looking forward to it.”
Eriksen, the former star of Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan, received a warm welcome at the stadium through which he made his name, following spending five years in the ranks of Ajax Amsterdam.
“It is great that I managed to score, but I might have scored two goals,” Eriksen said.
“I had great years here and I remember where the goal is here at the Johan Cruyff Arena,” he noted.
Eriksen returned to the Danish national team during the two friendlies once morest the Netherlands and Serbia, nine months following he suffered a heart attack; During one of the matches of the European Nations Cup “Euro 2020” that was held in 2021.
Eriksen, 30, was unconscious for five minutes following suffering a cardiac arrest during the Danish team’s match once morest Finland last June, but he received treatment and underwent a pacemaker implantation, which enabled him to continue his career as a player.
Eriksen joined Brentford last January and has played three matches since then, playing for 90 minutes for two consecutive matches, and also participated in the match that the team beat Burnley 2-0 in the twenty-ninth stage of the English Premier League.
This was enough to convince the Danish coach, Kasper Hjolmand, to return him to the national team’s squad once morest the Netherlands, as well as once morest Serbia on Tuesday.
