Admirable against Zurich, Yverdon leaves the Swiss Cup

Three weeks following a dry 6-0 conceded in the same place in the league, Yverdon Sport Féminin was able to dream of a final for an hour in Zurich on Sunday. Final defeat 5-2.

Martina Moser, Livia Peng, Meriam Terchoun… While playing in the Swiss Cup semi-final, Yverdon Sport Féminin was also treated to a snippet of an international match on Sunday. On paper, this FC Zurich and its legion of regulars in the Swiss selection really look good. In the field? The Zurich women are among the favorites for the title in the league. This weekend, however, the Nord-Vaudoises made them sweat much more than expected.

Yverdon Féminin got closer to the men’s club of the city last summer and it is amusing to observe that, as if to better seal the alliance, men and women nourished a common hope in the Cup. Thus, with its two teams present in the last four, Yverdon was only four small victories from celebrating the most incredible of doubles.

Step too high

The march will be high for the proteges of Uli Forte once morest Saint-Gall on April 21. It was too much for Frédéric Davoli’s players on Sunday, despite a more than admirable first hour of play. It’s a fact, YSF with its three points in the Women’s Super League becomes another team in the Cup. So there was a match at the Heerenschürli. Even where the Vertes had lost 6-0 in the league at the beginning of the month.

Hope might have died at the very start of the second half, when Fabienne Humm scored 2-0. With courage and character, the visitors offered a welcome twist to the game. Penalty obtained by Yasmina Laaroussi, converted by Elisa Zeller. The door to a feat barely opened ajar that it was necessary to measure what Tanja Bodenmann and her teammates were in the process of achieving. They had reached their peak. Too bad for the more complicated end of the match, marked all the same by a sublime goal from Valentine Rahm (5-2 final score). We dreamed of a 100% French-speaking final between Servette-Chênois (beaten on Saturday by GC) and Yverdon. It will ultimately be an all-Zurich battle for the coronation.
