“Yellows for Chile” declares itself on “maximum alert” for articles approved in the Convention | National

The “Yellows for Chile” movement issued a statement declaring themselves on “maximum alert” in the face of the new articles approved by the Convention. In the letter, they assure that the Magna Carta that is being written is a partisan and highly ideological Constitution.

This Sunday the “Yellows for Chile” movement issued a statement where they stated that they were “in a state of profound alertness and reflection” following the last articles approved in the Constitutional Convention.

“Since February, we have raised our Yellow Alerts, warning regarding some proposals from the commissions that have confused the felt need for profound transformations that Chileans want, with refoundations from scratch, that the majority of Chileans do not want,” the letter indicates.

In this, he ensures that are on “high alert” affirming that the articles approved in plenary instead of uniting Chileans to the country, will divide them.

“It is not regarding making a Constitution of the left or of the right, but a Constitution for everyone. President Boric said that we did not need a “partisan constitution”: this, until now, is a highly ideological, partisan Constitutionin which the ideas of a harder left have prevailed”, they affirmed.

As an example, the “Yellows for Chile” cited the articles on the recognition and self-government of indigenous peoples, with “the right to the full exercise of their collective and individual rights.” In this sense, the norm mentions that they can self-govern, recognize their lands and their heritage.

According to “Yellows for Chile”, “one thing is to promote dignity, recognition of indigenous peoples and their rights, another very different thing is to say that they are nations, empowered to legislate as they wish, organize themselves as they wish, and administer justice in the way they want”.

Given this, they propose as an alternative the constitutional recognition of indigenous peoples, respect for their culture, language and customs and also reserved seats, in proportion to the number of voters. As they indicate, the proposals of the Constitutional Convention “open a true “Pandora’s Box” of many autonomies that can end up dismembering the State”.

Finally, they reiterated their concern regarding the Constitution that is being written. “Do not put us in the dilemma of choosing between a Constitution that we already reject (the current Constitution) and a new Constitution that is poorly made and not representative of a large majority”, they sentenced.
