Rodrigo Lara Sánchez, the “vice” with which Federico looks for the center

From the Commune 13 of Medellín, this Saturday the candidate Federico Gutierrez I present Rodrigo Lara Sanchez as his vice-presidential ticket ahead of the May 29 contest.

With this election, the shelf of companions was completed and all the names that will appear on the card of the contest for the House of Nariño, in which prevail representatives of the afro communitiesa historical fact in the country.

Federico, who hid until the last moment the name of his formula, decided to bet in his homeland on a politician close to Antanas Mockus and his rival Sergio Fajardoa move with which he might drag votes to the center.

And it is that although the Team for Colombia candidate said that Lara’s appointment aims to unite the country and does not intend to drag votes, that might happen taking into account that Federico was the second most voted in the internal consultations of this March 13, only below Gustavo Petro.

Thus, if there is a second round between these two applicants, the presence of Lara –former mayor of Neiva– It might capture votes, not because of its own wealth –which is scarce–, but because of what its figure in the center might add, leaving Fajardo out.

Who is Rodrigo Lara?

This doctor from Huila inherited from his father, the liberal Rodrigo Lara Bonillathe political vein that he shares with his brother Rodrigo Lara Restrepo. That heritage has led him to serve in the military for more than 10 years in Citizen Commitmentand to be mayor of Neiva between 2016 and 2019.

Since she was young, Lara Sánchez has alternated her profession as a doctor with political practice, in which she has surrounded herself with figures such as Antanas Mockus, whom she accompanied in her presidential aspirations.

Now, 63 days before the presidential elections, his adherence to Federico’s campaign shows a message that support will be sought between various sectors – including the Democratic Center– to defeat strong opponents like Rodolfo Hernández, Íngrid Betancourt, Petro and Fajardo.

Among his political banners – mentioned in his presentation at Comuna 13 – is working for a healthcare systemthe education and the job for all regions.

“I have been working in the health sector for almost 30 years, I knew before Law 100, I know the weaknesses, the suffering of patients lining up and the denial of procedures. I know what people feel”, underlined the vice-presidential formula that days ago promoted the New Liberalism.

Frederick’s Bet

After Lara’s announcement as a teammate, the former mayor of Medellín seeks to distance himself from a political shore.

Indeed, while his main rival –Petro– radicalizes his speech and distances himself from sectors such as the liberal with Cesar GaviriaFederico speaks of union between sectors and summons Lara as a formula.

With it, he seeks to concretize ideas such as doing politics in the streets, in different cities and including various sectors of the political spectrum.

Proof of this is that he chose Medellín as the place to make this announcement. He did it a day following Petro announced from Bogotá that the capital of Antioquia is going to host his vice-presidential formula, France Marquezin case they win the elections with the Historical Pact.

For the moment, Federico and Lara will work hand in hand with the rest of the members of the Team for Colombiawho have been working in different sectors of the country for the campaign of the candidate from Antioquia, who together with his formula this Monday will have to formalize your aspiration in the Registry to win the Presidency.
