The kingdoms of Morocco and Spain are continuing their rapprochement, since the formal normalization of their relations, with the resumption of the maritime link between the two countries.
Morocco and Spain are taking another step in normalizing their relations with the resumption of maritime traffic scheduled for early April, following a two-year suspension. According to the Moroccan media which gave the information, this reopening of the maritime borders will see a first ferry leaving the port of Tarifa in Spain to return to the city of Tangier, on April 7.
This resumption of maritime traffic will prevent Moroccans residing in Spain from passing through the ports of Sète in France and Genoa in Italy, to try to reach Morocco, as has been the case for the past two years. The Kingdom of Morocco, officially for reasons of health crisis, had decided to suspend this maritime traffic which has now been restored. A recovery that will allow Moroccan companies operating in the sector to rebuild their financial health following being hit hard by Covid-19.
This resumption of maritime shuttles between the two countries comes a few days following the normalization of relations between Rabat and Madrid, once morest a backdrop of controversy. Since the normalization included the territories of Western Sahara whose Moroccanness Spain recognizes. In return, Morocco gives up claiming Ceuta and Melilla. An agreement between the two kingdoms which had the direct consequences of angering Algeria and the Polisario Front.
