Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, March 26 (Reporter Wang Shoubao Gao Wencheng) Iranian Foreign Minister Abdullahyan said on the 26th that the negotiation of the relevant parties to the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue is very close to an agreement, but there are still differences on some important issues. Excessive US demands are the main obstacle to a deal.
Abdullahyan said in a televised speech that day that the negotiation has made important progress in lifting sanctions once morest Iran, but challenges and differences still exist on some important issues. He pointed out that removing Iranian individuals and legal persons from the US sanctions list is one of the main demands of the Iranian side during the negotiations. In addition, the role of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as Iran’s most important security provider must also be recognized.
Abdullahyan said any new deal should not go beyond the 2015 JCPOA. Excessive demands by the United States are the main obstacle to a final agreement in the current negotiations. If the US has goodwill, it should lift the sanctions once morest Iran. Iran is looking for practical measures. Iran will not abandon its nuclear achievements until it has a firm commitment.
In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany. Under the agreement, Iran pledged to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions on Iran. In May 2018, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement, and subsequently restarted and added a series of sanctions once morest Iran. Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of some of the terms of the agreement, but promised that the measures taken are “reversible”.
The parties involved in the Iran nuclear deal will start negotiations in Vienna, the capital of Austria, in April 2021 to discuss the resumption of compliance between the United States and Iran, and the United States indirectly participates in the negotiations. The eighth round of negotiations was launched in Vienna on December 27, 2021.
