Japanese Prime Minister and U.S. Ambassador to Japan Lay Flowers at the Atomic Bomb Memorial Monument in Hiroshima

According to Japan’s NHK TV station, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and U.S. Ambassador to Japan Emanuel visited Hiroshima, which was bombed by the U.S. atomic bomb during World War II, on the 26th, and expressed condolences to the victims of the atomic bomb explosion in Peace Memorial Park. On the 26th, Kishida and Emanuel inspected the Atomic Bomb Museum and watched the paper cranes donated by then US President Barack Obama during his visit in 2016. Afterwards, the two came to lay flowers in front of the memorial monument for the victims of the atomic bombing in the Peace Memorial Park, and prayed for the victims of the atomic bombing.
Emanuel, a former chief adviser to the Obama administration, will take up his post as U.S. ambassador to Japan in January 2022. During his visit on the 26th, he said: “There is no better place than Hiroshima to meet and work together and promote the peace process.”
