The section between Hokuto City and Kikonai Town on the “Hakodate-Esashi Expressway” will open on the 26th, and is expected to lead to revitalization of tourism in the local area.
The section of the “Hakodate-Esashi Expressway” that connects Hakodate City and Esashi Town is regarding 16 km between the Hokuto Moheji Interchange in Hokuto City and the Kikonai Interchange in Kikonai Town.
At the ceremony on the 26th, Mayor Shinya Suzuki of Kikonai Town said, “There is history and culture, wonderful mountains and seafood in Southern Hokkaido. I hope that it will help revitalize the Southern Hokkaido region.” Did.

According to the Hakodate Development and Construction Department, the time required from Hakodate Airport to Kikonai Town will be reduced by 33 minutes with this opening.
In addition to revitalizing tourism, it is expected to be a route for evacuation and relief when coastal roads are closed due to tsunamis and storm surges.
Of the 70km plan for the “Hakodate-Esashi Expressway,” 34km has been opened, but there is no prospect of starting the rest of the section.
Yusuke Takeda, Chief of the Road Planning Division of the Hakodate Development and Construction Department, said, “When you come to Southern Hokkaido in the coming spring tourism season, please use it.”
