Al-Marsad newspaper: Lawyer Turki Al-Hassa narrated the details of the story of a girl who confronted a harasser by using a “pepper spray” in a shopping center in Riyadh, but she was accused of “assaulting the young man” following referring them to the “Public Prosecution”.
Al-Hassa said in a video clip published by the “Tawasol Al-Risala” program on the “Al-Resala” channel: “A case I passed by, I was astonished by it. A group of young men were gathered in one of Riyadh’s complexes, and two girls passed by, and they harassed them.”
The lawyer added: “According to the young men’s talk, the two girls were dressed indecently, and they took that as a justification for harassing them, but a girl responded with shouting and did not remain silent regarding her right,” pointing out that one of them felt insulted by that.
Al Hassa indicated that the young man and the girl exchanged responses between them and the dispute intensified, so he tried to grab her from her hand – but he did not touch her – but she took the “pepper spray” out of her bag and sprayed it on it; Which exposed him to damage.
The lawyer concluded: that the young man was referred to the Public Prosecution on charges of harassment, while the girl was charged with “assault”, indicating that self-defense must meet two conditions so that it does not turn into an assault, which is self-defense in the easiest way, and then gradually escalate.
