Caracas, March 25 (EFE).- The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Venezuela reported this Friday that 366,000 people received some type of aid during the month of January through the Humanitarian Response Plan of the UN in the Caribbean country.
“In January 2022, humanitarian assistance reached 366,000 people with some kind of help. The Humanitarian Response is present in all the states of Venezuela,” OCHA Venezuela reported on its Twitter account.
In a graph, the organization detailed that this assistance was carried out by 81 organizations, of which 48 are Venezuelan NGOs and 17 international.
In addition, the support operations during the month of January were also undertaken by nine programs belonging to the UN with a presence in Venezuela, six private or academic organizations and one linked to the Red Cross.
The OCHA indicated that among the beneficiaries during the first month of the year, 10,000 children, adolescents and pregnant or lactating women received deworming treatments.
Some 239,000 people received aid regarding access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene and 131,000 benefited from issues related to food security and livelihoods.
The agency’s data also indicates that 85,000 people received health care, 64,000 in “total protection”, 23,000 in education and 20,000 in nutrition, among others.
OCHA clarified that the figures provided refer to the estimated number of people who have been reached with some type of humanitarian assistance, at least once, and that “this does not mean that their needs have been covered.”
On March 3, OCHA reported that the UN Humanitarian Response Plan for Venezuela, with the support of 132 organizations, served 4.5 million citizens in 332 municipalities in the country in 2021.
In a report published on the Humanitarian Response page, the UN agency then showed that, during the past year, the Humanitarian Response Plan had a greater scope, mainly in the health, water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.
They also attended the housing, energy and household goods, nutrition, food security and livelihoods and education sectors.
89 Venezuelan NGOs, 25 international organizations, 9 belonging to the UN, 7 private and academic organizations and 2 from the Red Cross participated in the plan.
In 2021, 374.4 million dollars were received for the Venezuelan Humanitarian Response from 18 international donors, which represents an increase of 121% since 2019. EFE
