The Representative Professions Syndicate announced in EgyptToday, Friday, the death of actor Ahmed Halawa at the age of 73, due to complications Corona virus infection. Halawa was taken to hospital last month for treatment of the virus, but his health has deteriorated in the last two days.
Halawa was born on January 7, 1949, and loved acting since his childhood. School theater was the first stepping stone to the world of art. He studied engineering, but insisted on learning the arts academically, so he obtained a BA from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.
He also obtained a diploma from the “Higher Institute of Fine Arts Leonardo da Vinci” in the Department of Decoration. He received his PhD from the University of Theatrical and Film Art in Bucharest in the philosophy of arts, for the dissertation he presented under the title “Comedy Directing Techniques in Contemporary Egyptian Theatre” in 1994.
He excelled in theatrical direction, design and animation of puppets and sculpture, and he founded the “Halawa Complex for Sciences and Arts”, which specializes in applied arts, such as painting on glass, decoupage, embroidery and mosaic.
The play “Bank Talk” was Halawa’s first act on the stage, in 1978, directed by Samir Al-Asfoury. It was the first public-sector play and it continues for 13 months. In it, Halawa presented 7 different characters, then presented on the stage of “Al-Rihani Theater” the play “Very Empty Words” in the same year, which was his real breakthrough in the art world.
In a press interview with him previously, he said that at the beginning of his career he refused to work with his uncle, the prominent theatrical actor Fayez Halawa (1932 – 2002) so that it would not be said that he relied on his stardom. He later worked with him in 4 theater productions.
Among his plays are also “The Bridge of the Laws” (1997), “Isis” (1986), “Caligula” (1992), “Shaqlabaz” (1982), “The Constitution of Our Masters” (1995), and “Tari’io” ( 2002).
He participated in the films “The Torment is a Woman” (1977), “The Devils of the City” (1991), “The Strongest Men” (1993), “The Children Escaped” (2006), “Dawlat Security” (2011), and “Reply”. Verb (2012), “The Fourth Pyramid” (2016), “My Soulmate” (2020), and others.
