Fortnite Raises $50 Million To Help Ukraine • Eurogamer.net

Epic Games has now raised $50 million for Ukraine from three days of Fortnite earnings.

This is the money raised from in-game sales starting on Sunday, when Fortnite’s new season went live and millions of people picked up its new battle pass.

Epic’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed either. Last night, the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Fortnite developer via Twitter. Mykhailo Fedorov is also the country’s digital transformation minister and has previously called for PlayStation and Xbox to drop sales in Russia.

Epic Games’ total of $50 million will only increase, with additional Fortnite profits to be included for another 10 days, until April 3.

Joe Tidy, BBC News cyberjournalist wrote this morning that the total was probably “the most of any private company in the world”, and more than some countries.

Xbox has also helped by waiving its standard platform fee, which means even more money for humanitarian aid charities.

Fortnite’s new season is clearly war-themed, with drivable tanks and other combat additions. It received an unusually quiet launch with no prior marketing buildup.

The popular battle royale game has also removed its building mechanics on an experimental basis – at least for now.
