Some 36 suspected terrorists were “neutralized” and 24 Burkinabè soldiers killed on Sunday during anti-terrorist operations carried out in recent days in Burkina Faso, the army announced in a press release on Tuesday evening.
According to the army statement, as part of securing the territory, the National Armed Forces have been conducting a military operation in the eastern region of the country for several days.
“During this particularly intense engagement, the units managed to neutralize at least 36 terrorists through land and air interventions,” the army said in its statement.
The same source specifies that on the day of March 20, 2022, two major incidents were recorded during the progression of the units.
A clash 20 kilometers from Natiaboani cost the lives of 13 soldiers and caused 09 injuries, and a complex attack in the vicinity of Napadé during which 11 soldiers fell, the statement said.
Taking stock of its monthly operations, the Burkinabè army announced on Sunday evening that it had “neutralized” several dozen suspected terrorists in several localities in the country between February 15 and March 15.
These operations have also enabled “dozens of internally displaced persons to return to their localities”, according to the same source.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been the target of terrorist attacks which, between 2016 and December 31, 2021, killed more than 2,000 people, including 600 members of the defense and security forces, according to the government.
