A Belgian judge, realistic: “Zero tolerance towards speeders? A sweet dream”


The lack of staff in the police courts leads to administrative slowness in the prosecution of speeders.

The creation of the national prosecutor’s office for road safety is a decision “going in the right direction”most “which is not a miracle solution assures a judge specializing in traffic offences, who wishes to preserve his anonymity.

“Creating a national public prosecutor’s office for road safety will undoubtedly solve part of the problem by making it possible to centralize heavy files and relieve the local public prosecutor’s offices of the administrative burden, but the problem lies in the lack of staff at the level of the police courts. There are too many vacancies and there are not enough candidates for office”he explains.
