The changes in the different public departments continue. The president of the System of Public Companies (SEP), Loreto Seguel, presented his resignation to the government of Gabriel Boric, which will become effective as of this Wednesday, March 23. Through a statement, it was also indicated that who will remain in office depends on the Council of the entity.

“In reference to the substitution of said position, CORFO resolution No. 381 of 1997 provides that it will fall to the organic of the SEP Council or, failing that, to the Executive Director,” the statement said.

And he added that “each of the 20 companies of the SEP, find their corporate governments in office, maintaining focus on operational continuity and compliance with the respective strategic mandates.”

Loreto Seguel took office in February 2021 during the government of Sebastián Piñera. She is a civil engineer and has a Master’s in Engineering Sciences from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She was also Minister of Women and Undersecretary of Social Services during the first administration of Piñera.

Until before taking office in the SEP, Seguel served as president of the Board of Directors of Empresa Portuaria de Arica and as director of Dictuc SA

In January of this year, Loreto Seguel gave an interview to Pulse, where he detailed that on March 11 of this year the 9 directors of the SEP ended their positions. Three of them are appointed by the President; three Corfo, two the Ministry of Finance and one Economy. That instance will be in charge of appointing the directors of companies such as Metro, EFE, Correos de Chile, Casa de Moneda and 10 state ports. There are a total of 20 companies and 84 directors.

“These are not ministries, they are not political positions. For a long time there has been a seal that they are people whose business expertise is put at the service of the public world. They must be the best companies, because they are the companies of all Chileans,” Seguel said at the time.
