The Organization for the Development of the Senegal River wins the Hassan II World Water Grand Prize

The Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS) received the Hassan II World Water Grand Prize on Monday, on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar.

Moroccan Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka presented the award to OMVS High Commissioner Hamet Diane Semega. It is a trophy, a certificate and an amount of 500,000 dollars.

The OMVS was created in 1972 by Mali, Mauritania and Senegal, joined in 2006 by Guinea, to manage the watershed of the Senegal River, the second largest river in South Africa. West following Niger.

The Hassan II World Grand Prize, jointly led by the Kingdom of Morocco and the World Water Council, is awarded every three years during the opening ceremony of the World Water Forum.

From March 21 to 26, Dakar is hosting the 9th World Water Forum under the theme “water security for peace and development”. This is the first time that this triennial forum has been organized in a country in sub-Saharan Africa.
