JAKARTA Ayu Ting Ting | criticized by Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) because he was too revealing his widow status in several television programs that he participated in. As a result, MUI also asked the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to stop the program starring the artist from Depok.

This has also drawn various comments, including criticism from the widows association community. One of them was the Founder of the #SaveJanda Mutiara Proehoeman Community, who regretted the statement by the Deputy Secretary of MUI Infokom Elvi Hudhriyah who said that Ayu Ting Ting had exploited her widow status too much and had to be boycotted from all television programs.

Mutiara invites the whole community to change the negative stigma towards widow status. Where this status also has the right to run his life, including Ayu Ting Ting. “It’s time for us to remove the stigma of widowhood together,” Mutiara told MNC Portal, Monday (21/3/2022).

Mutiara continued, the burden of stigma that is already attached to widowed women has an impact on their psychological, social, and economic conditions. Often women choose to withdraw from work or social life because they are often bullied, harassed, even attacked mentally or physically.

According to him, MUI as the protector of the people should be much more sensitive to the reality, that widow status requires her rights. Boycotting someone because she enjoys her status as a widow is not a commendable act.

“Instead of helping to lighten the burden, this actually exacerbates the negative stigma once morest widowed women in society,” she said.

Mutiara added that as an entertainment worker, Ayu is required to satisfy the market in order to maintain her popularity. Therefore, if you want to be more critical, you should change the consumption pattern of entertainment and the image of the dancer broadly.

“Not by attacking Ayu Ting Ting, who is only part of the capitalist system of the entertainment industry. What MUI does is don’t educate and don’t have empathy, it’s just turning off the source of her income,” said Mutiara.

Meanwhile, Ayu Ting Ting herself has not yet cast her vote to respond to the issue. Namely, he was boycotted by MUI and asked KPI to stop the dancer from exploiting his widow status.
