In any case, you shouldn’t do something like this on public roads, but it can work: In early 2020, a YouTuber showed how an unknown person might be Tesla Model X Performance jumping over a crest in Los Angeles let. The heavy electric car flew regarding ten meters and then touched down relatively gently and without damage. Apparently inspired by this, strangers tried the same thing with a Model S in the same place last weekend. This time, however, the attempt to fly or jump in the Tesla went horribly wrong.
2 people with cat fly in Model S
From Sunday, more and more reports and video excerpts regarding the incident appeared on social media. Because it happened following a Tesla meeting on Saturday evening, as the organizer, the well-known YouTuber Alex Choi, shows and explains in his own video. At least a double-digit number of Teslas were involved in this – and the crew of one of them apparently ended up with the idea of recreating the stunt with the Model X from two years ago.
He didn’t know the people in the black Model S, Choi explains in his video. They would have asked the other participants in the meeting to wait at the side of the road and watch. Apparently there were at least two people in the car. Because the recordings show that the rear right side window is open during the flight test and one hand rests loosely on the roof. In addition, a cat is said to have been there, but according to Choi, like all the people in the Tesla, was unharmed.
That was not necessarily to be expected. As the videos compiled by Choi from many angles show, the Tesla takes off at least five meters high following apparently being steered over the crest with maximum acceleration. The Model X, on the other hand, was only regarding a meter vertically off the road. But the Model S is in the air long enough to lose its balance – the front lowers and the electric car hits the road once more, bumper first, with a loud crash. The frunk hood opens, and following some swerving from right to left, the Tesla is stopped by a parked SUV.
Tesla driver flees, police are looking for clues
Other scenes in Choi’s compilation show other participants in the meeting clearing the street of junk parts, appearing both intrigued and shocked. The same can be said of the YouTuber himself, who vacillates between enthusiastic stories regarding the failed stunt in the Model S and bewilderment. The people in the destroyed Tesla immediately fled, he says. Later it was said that the car had been borrowed from a private rental company. Police are offering a $1,000 reward for information regarding the driver who got away from the crash. Given the large number of witnesses, they shouldn’t be difficult to obtain.
